This paper compares the various data acquisition and analysis techniques used in predictive maintenance or condition based maintenance of industrial machines. Entry and operational costs are compared. A hybrid system comprised of 4-20 mA transmitters for on-line monitoring of overall levels along with FFT based data collectors is offered as a good compromise.
